THE CHANTERELDERS are a
non-auditioned group who sing for enjoyment. They were founded in 2000
by Jo Hunter and Sophie Pascall, and were originally made up of parents
from the highly successful girls choir: the Chanterelles. The choir has
now evolved into a group that is open to all and has members from across
the county and city of Leicester. The Chanterelders enjoy a varied
programme of events and concerts and in 2005 took part in the
Peterborough Choral Competition. Their conductor, Sophie Pascall,
was born in Nottingham. She studied cello from the age of eight with
Richard May and later as a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal College of
Music with Peter Esswood. She took her degree in music at Leeds
University and while she was there conducted the University Chorus.
After gaining a PGCE from Homerton College she became the Advisory
Teacher for Music Curriculum and Choirs in Leicester and Leicestershire.
In this role she conducts the Leicestershire Youth and Junior Choirs.
Robert Pascall studied organ with H.A. Bate in London and
musicology with Sir Jack Westrup at Oxford. He was Head of Music at
Nottingham University 1988-1998 and thereafter at Bangor University.
While in Nottingham he conducted the Nottingham University Chapel Choir,
University Orchestra and Choir, Music Club Chamber Orchestra and the
Nottingham Bach Society. He currently plays at St. Mary's, Clifton,
Nottingham.
